KEMPTON CAMP GROUNDS

Public BBQ

A council-run donation camp in the middle of Kempton, about forty minutes from Hobart, and one of the better free stops in the state. Sites are level gravel and grass with plenty of room for vans, motorhomes, big rigs or tents, and six of them have power. Toilets and hot showers are accessed by key from the council chambers across the street, on a deposit plus a small charge. Water is available, there is a playground right alongside, and a few seats and tables. It sits just off the highway but the traffic does not carry, and it goes virtually silent late at night. Friendly sheep in the next paddock will come over for a pat. It is extremely popular, and the twenty-four-hour limit on the powered sites is not always respected. The town has a whisky distillery, a cafe, a pub and a dog park. Leave a donation.
